TOEFL EXAM

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)

Administered by Educational Testing Services, its objective is to certify the English level of international students, with another mother tongue, who wish to access institutes or universities in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada.

Taking this exam enables the student to communicate in both real and academic situations, while certifying their level of knowledge of the English language.

For the preparation of this exam, we have semi-private or individual classes that allow us to carry out a personalized diagnosis to detect the aspects that need to be worked on. In exams like the TOEFL, not only your knowledge of English is important, but also the ability to answer the type of questions it contains in a limited time. Therefore, another key aspect of the course is the completion of practical examples in class and trial-run exams outside the classroom. These types of simulations are designed to be done as a complement to the teaching sessions in a flexible schedule, and they offer you the possibility to truly measure your progress since they take place under the same circumstances as the real exam.

Assesses the ability to understand spoken English. It lasts 60-90 minutes. It consists of 4 to 6 lectures with 6 questions each and 2 or 3 conversations with 5 questions each.

It consists of 6 tasks that are completed in approximately 20 minutes. The first two tasks are 'independent speaking tasks' that deal with general topics. The remaining tasks are 'integrated tasks' that combine several skills. Candidates read and listen to short passages to which they must respond verbally. They can take notes and use them to answer the questions. For all 'Speaking' tasks, headphones with a microphone are used, and the responses are recorded.

It consists of 2 tasks that must be completed in 50 minutes. The first consists of a text of around 300 words that candidates must read in about 3 minutes and from which they can take notes. After that time, the text disappears from the screen, and candidates listen for 2 minutes to a speaker discussing the same topic but from a different perspective. This passage provides candidates with additional information regarding the issues raised in the reading text. After listening to this passage, candidates must write a summary of 150 to 225 words of the most important points of the 'listening' and how they relate to the reading text. The second task is to write an essay of about 300 words on a topic.

Each section is scored out of a maximum of 30 points for a total score of 120. The required admission score varies considerably between universities.

To take the exam you must register by visiting www.toefl.org When you register you can choose the city where you prefer to take the exam. Currently, exam sessions for this test are not organized in Cantabria, but there are in Asturias or Vizcaya.
